What is it?
These qualifications do exactly what they says on the tin! At all nine levels, you will gain the knowledge needed for selling, service, team working, health & safety and dealing with theft as well as more specific knowledge in areas including chilled food, newspapers, garden retail, beauty, fashion and builders' merchants.
You can gain these qualifications by a number of methods, including in-house (if you work), through a retail skills shop, online or by using a workbook. |
Retail Skills

What is it?
These nine qualifications complement Retail Knowledge, by giving you competence-based skills within the workplace. Developed and based on real working practices, Retail Skills can be embedded within your company's normal training and development programmes.
Retail Skills allows you to gain recognition for general sales roles or more specialist roles including beuaty, butchery, fashion or visual merchandising. |

Retail Apprenticeships

Levels 2 and 3
Who is it for?
Everyone 16+ years old
What is it?
The Retail Apprenticeship programme is actually four qualifications in one and has been designed for retail staff, sales professionals, visual merchandisers, specialist managers and first line managers. It is adaptable to be tailored to fit all types of retail businesses and job roles.
You will learn aspects of Retail Skills and Retail Knowledge as well as extra literacy and numeracy and it is all delivered within the workplace.

Foundation Degree in Retailing
What level is it?
Levels 4 and 5
Who is it for?
Everyone 18+ years old
What is it?
This Foundation Degree is unique to retail and a valuable higher level qualification designed and recognised by a range of retailers, including some big household names. This qualification has been created for managers wishing to extend their knowledge of the retail industry and can be completed in two years as a part-time course.

Diploma in Retail Business

Levels 1 (Foundation), 2 (Higher) and 3 (Advanced)
Who is it for?
Everyone 14+ years old
What is it?
The new Diploma in Retail Business is an exciting new qualification which wil sit alongside GCSEs and A levels in the curriculum when it begins in September 2010. Actually made up of a number of different qualifications, learners will study all aspects of retail form product sourcing through to sales and other key processes.
A level 3 achievement will attract UCAS points which can be used for university application.

This one-year full-time qualification has been created for aspiring young adults at FE colleges. Level 2 concentrates on preparing students to enter the fashion retial industry while level 3 combines theory and practice with a large amount of work experience.
