The Skillsmart Retail Visual Merchandising competition will see visual merchandising teams from across the UK going head to head in a national contest and will feature a live showcase finale at the In-Store show at Earls Court, London on Tuesday 20th May 2008. Retail Apprentice of the Year Award 2008
Are you a learning provider or business that would like to nominate a retail apprentice you think is deserving of an award for their hard work? The Retail Apprentice of the Year Award is an opportunity to make sure retail rising stars get the recognition they deserve. The award, sponsored by Skillsmart Retail in partnership with Retail Week, is one of the Retail Week Rising Star Awards – an event which recognises the up-and-coming stars who will be the future leaders of retail.

The Independent Achievers Academy (IAA) will be honouring outstanding retailers at a gala dinner celebration in London.
The Independent Achievers Academy develops independent news and convenience retailers through giving practical business advice across 12 retail principles from Shop Layout to Staff Development, a category sponsored by Skillsmart Retail.

Invitations are now open for the next round of Retail Training Provider Roadshows.
The roadshows will provide a valuable opportunity to network with fellow training providers and the opportunity to share best practice methods. Presentations and workshops include Skills and Qualifications and New Tools for Employment Engagement.

Anne Seaman, Chief Executive of Skillsmart Retail, will be giving a speech at the Association of Learning Providers conference in May. The event will be held in Nottingham and is entitled The Forum for Employment and Skills. Skillsmart Retail will also be holding a seminar at the event. More information on the event is yet to released.

This event is to support Skills Brokers and Providers in their engagement with retail employers. Sharing results of Skillsmart research that offers insight into the retailers who will be more open to training, this event will share the barriers to engaging retail employers and give understanding about the challenges specific to the retail sector, as well as offering solutions, suggestions and support tools to overcome these barriers. This event is aimed at anyone who engages with retail employers. Please see attachment more information and Booking Form.

April - June 2008: Getting to Grips with Retail
After the success last year, Skillsmart Retail is proud to release the 2008 dates for the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events. Aimed at assessors, IVs, lead verifiers, programme managers or anyone that is at the front end of retail NVQ delivery, the events will tackle the issues involved in quality assessment and delivery of NVQs in the retail environment. Primarily, this will promote the process of sharing best practice techniques to ensure successful completion of retail qualifications at any level. The cost is £135 per delegate, which includes delegate pack, lunch and refreshments throughout the day and certificate of attendance. 5 June 2008: House of Commons Reception
Skillsmart Retail is to host an All Party Parliamentary Groups and Employer Reception at the House of Commons on Thursday 5th June 2008. The aim of the event is to improve links between Skillsmart Retail, Retail Employers and government. It will be hosted by Skillsmart Retail with keynote speaker Charlie Mayfield, Chairman of John Lewis. By engaging with the All Party Parliamentary Groups for Retail, Skills and Small Shops, Skillsmart Retail hope to raise awareness and gather support from all stakeholders involved.
30 September 2008: everywoman in Retail Awards
The everywoman in Retail Awards gives recognition to inspirational women who have achieved significant success, particularly those who have overcome skills gaps or financial and social adversity. Anne Seaman, Skillsmart Retail CEO, has agreed to be a judge on this inaugural event which is part of the everywoman Awards. The event will be held in London on 30th September.
