Each Sector Skills Council, including Skillsmart Retail, has a remit to develop demand-led intelligence for its sector. This is grounded in a need for a thorough understanding of retailing in order to identify its particular skills issues and to highlight possible future challenges. Our research team provides the evidence base for all our activities by providing robust labour market intelligence (LMI), as well as leading on the Sector Skills Agreement. It undertakes a variety of projects ranging from analysis and commentary on existing datasets, to bespoke funded projects for retailers and key partner organisations. Those in our audience who are employers, policymakers, economists, researchers, planners, journalists and students all need access to LMI. They often use our data to support conclusions and to inform and advise decision-makers in shaping policy. Such analyses can influence skills and training development for the sector, as well as stimulating thinking about the way ahead. For further information on our research programme or to discuss how Skillsmart Retail can work with you, please email Karen Charlesworth, Head of Research, or call 020 7462 5069.
